What we keep, and what we do not.

Saddleback Spotlight is a small local publication. This page describes everything this website collects. It is short because there is not much.

If you fill in the form

We keep what you typed: your name, your email address, and - if you gave them - your phone number, your business name and your message. It is stored on our own server and emailed to the person who will answer you. Nothing else receives it.

We keep it for as long as we might reasonably still be talking to you about advertising, and it goes into our own customer records if you become an advertiser. We do not sell it, rent it, or hand it to an advertising network, and we do not add you to a bulk mailing list because you used a contact form.

Cookies

This site sets none. There is no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to.

Visitor numbers

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. It does not use cookies, it does not fingerprint your browser, and it does not build a profile of you or follow you to other sites. What we see is how many people read a page, not who they were.

The bot check on the form

The form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which works out whether a submission came from a person or a script. It is used instead of a CAPTCHA precisely because it does not track you across the web and usually asks you to do nothing at all.

Scanning a QR code on the card

Each advertiser’s code sends you to their own website. We record that a scan happened, roughly what kind of device it was, and a one-way fingerprint made from your network address - so that two scans from the same phone can be told apart from two scans by two people.

We do not store your network address itself. The fingerprint is a hash and cannot be turned back into an address, and it is only ever compared against other hashes. The advertiser sees that a visit came from the card; they do not get your details, because we do not have them.

Getting the card stopped

Tell us the street address and we will take it off the route. We do not need your name, and there is no list you have to be removed from - see the page for residents.

Asking us what we hold

Ask and we will tell you, and if you want it deleted we will delete it. Write to [email protected].
